Black magic workshop

Saturday, 8th. February proved to be an exciting day. Ineke Berlyn worked with us to create some lovely pieces in what was a hardworking but relaxed day, due in no small part to her calm manner.
She introduced us to the idea of discharge printing, removing colour from fabric through a thermofax screen and then over printing, again using thermofax screens,  to create a unique fabric background that could be used for a variety of things including a bag if we so wished.
Watching the discharged images slowly appearing under the iron was fascinating. The overprinting and use of gold and silver and other metallic printing dyes was addictive and could be overdone far too easily. There were some riots of colour around the room.
By the end of the day, we had all produced some really interesting fabrics and it will be good to see how members develop them.

Members completed pieces of fabric.

The leaves were printed first and then the church was discharge printed giving a slightly ghostly quality.

The tree screen was interesting as the negative spaces were printed. On this piece the image was printed again.

There was the opportuntity to use lots of text screens. The beach huts were veru effective.

Lots of examples of completed fabrics.

Coffee and chat. The day schools offer lots of opportunities to catch up with friends.
