January Members' Day

Our first meeting of this year was a day for members to get together and enjoy a relaxing day stitching and catching up.  There was plenty going on.  Besides the sales table, we enjoyed our bring-and-share lunch, and browsed folios borrowed from the Guild.

The stitching theme for the day was 'Circles', and Programme Secretaries, Gill and Lucy, provided an inspiring display of samples and ideas to get people started.  As always, a great deal of time and effort had gone into this.  Gill also demonstrated a couple of machine accessories for stitching circles, which provided food for thought.

Here's a snapshot of works in progress.  Look out for the finished versions on display later in the year.

Our Christmas competition, "A Winter Scene", had been postponed from December, so the entries were on display during the day. We traditionally vote for our favourite with coins, which are afterwards donated to a charity of the winner's choice.  It was difficult to choose one from such a beautiful collection, but Wendy's framed scene (bottom right in the photo below) was voted the overall winner.
"A Winter Scene".  Unfortunately, not all the pieces made it into the photo!

After such an interesting and creative day, we are now looking forward to the February talk by Lis Mann on 20th century artists who had links with textiles, and then her workshop which will take Van Gogh as a starting point for a piece of work.  More information soon ...
